ADRA responds to 2011/12 Food Crisis

Insufficient and unequally distributed rainfalls during the 2011 rain season in the Sahel region led to failure of crops and a cereal deficit of 2,5 million tons. Most recent estimates show that about 18.4 millions people are affected by the food crisis especially in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. In a normal year 225.000 children die in the Sahel due to malnutrition. This year risks to be much worse: According to the UN over 1 million children are at risk of severe acute malnutrition and an estimated 3 million children are at risk of moderate acute malnutrition.
World Aids Day Commemorated

This year ADRA Mali decided to celebrate the World Aids Day (1 December) for the first time In the Ouarala village, situated in the Nossombougou commune, Kouliloro region of Mali. It's population of 2645 persons is essentially Bambara and their main activity is farming. The village is a partner in the HEAL II project funded by ADRA Sweden and working towards improved livelihoods, improved health and improved education.

“Put a smile on the face of a Child in Mali” is the motto of this year's Shoebox Appeal, a project organized and funded by ADRA UK in cooperation with their partners in developing countries. Each year ADRA puts a smile on the face of thousands of children in need through the generosity of volunteers in the United Kingdom.
